Ahead of their upcoming tour dates for North America and Europe, Boy Harsher have released a new video for their song “LA (Rabit remix)” and a unique companion to said video: an Instagram face filter.
This video continues the story of Hunter, the character created and featured in the original video for LA, and adds another character as well, Harmony. “Hunter and Harmony are two sides of a coin, faces vs. face, field vs. ground,” says director Kathleen Dycaico when asked about the characters. “Harmony is heartbroken in their burning house, inner mirror to complete environmental collapse. Hunter evolved ruthless to protect Harmony, and to face the outside world. Running in despair. Heavy the weight of desire. I loved our world.”
Rabit’s remix is an uneasy yet captivating listen, created using only vocal stems. The result is a remix that feels like an almost alien counterpart to its original song, reflecting the duality of the characters featured in its video. Watch the video here and see (and hear) for yourself.
Dycaico worked alongside digital artist ÚNA BLUE to create an interesting counterpart to the video: a face filter based on Hunter. She describes the scorpions adorning Hunter’s face as “built to withstand harsh country, not vengeful unless bothered, symbol of betrayal, poisonous. Protective of the mouth, entryway to interiority and gatekeepers of what exits.” Give it a try here.
This remix is featured on Boy Harsher’s 12-track album “Careful Remixes, etc.”, and was also available on 7″ vinyl bundled with the now sold out deluxe editions of the “Come Closer” and “Tears” maxi 12″. The regular versions of both records and the digital version of the album are still available on Bandcamp.
The Careful tour continues throughout the rest of the year with plenty of dates all over Europe and the USA. The UK will see two shows in November, at Scala in London on the 12th and Brighton’s The Haunt the following day. The full list of shows and dates is available on Boy Harsher’s official website.
